Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Acceleration Challenge open access? Can non-GBTA members participate?
The GBTA Sustainability Acceleration Challenge is completely free of charge and we encourage any company with business travel to participate, whether they are GBTA members or non-members. Companies must submit one response per company or regional travel program.
When is the Maturity Assessment open, and how long will it take to complete? Can I save and return to my responses?
The Maturity Assessment is open for 3 months every year from June to September. It includes 32 questions, and the time necessary to complete the assessment depends on the time needed to collaborate with your procurement, travel, and sustainability teams to compile information about your organization’s sustainability and travel practices. Once all the information is at hand, the assessment can be completed in 15 minutes. Your responses will be saved and Qualtrics will allow you to return to your responses until submission.
Will my information and responses be kept confidential?
The Acceleration Challenge only reports aggregated information about the state of climate action in business travel. Companies can participate anonymously, and no individual data or scores will be disclosed without explicit permission. If you choose to join the movement towards improving your score (via this separate form), your logo will be shared on our website, but your results and individual data will still be kept confidential.
How are the Maturity Assessments scored?
Scores are calculated based on a company’s maturity level for each tactic and the decarbonization impact of that tactic. The overall maturity score for each category is calculated as the product of these dimensions, reflecting both its potential to reduce emissions and its implementation progress. The maturity score is thus a transparent and comparable metric that allows companies to see where they stand against their peers. Companies who participate in the Acceleration Challenge receive not only their overall score, but scores for each category from a 1 (no activity) to a 5 (leading practice). Download our step-by-step guide to learn more.
How and when will I receive my results? How should I interpret my results?
When the global assessment closes, each respondent will receive their Organization Report via email from accelerationchallenge@gbta.org. The report provides you with a score and compares your progress against aggregated industry results. Your information, assessment responses, and Organization Report will be kept confidential. The report can be used internally to track progress against sustainability goals, to aid in strategic planning, and to help make the business case for more sustainable travel practices. The Organization Report will give you tangible insights and metrics to benchmark your travel program against your peer group, providing clear data to create buy-in to accelerate your sustainability program. The information from all respondents will also be aggregated into an Industry Dashboard available on our website.
