The GBTA Sustainability Acceleration Challenge empowers organizations globally to reduce their emissions from business travel.

Your information, survey responses, and company report will be kept CONFIDENTIAL.
What to expect
The Maturity Assessment includes 32 questions covering various topics within four levers of action for sustainable business travel. It is open to any organization with a travel policy in any region. GBTA and non-GBTA members are invited to participate. The assessment is available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese.
Your information, responses, and Organization Report will be kept confidential unless explicit permission is granted by you to share.
Please plan to submit one assessment per organization or region, based on the scope of your travel program.
While taking the assessment
Completing the assessment may require collaboration with your organization’s colleagues in travel, sustainability, procurement, and other departments. You can download a copy of the questions below to collaborate with your team.

While completing the survey, your progress will be saved and you can return to it later (using the same internet browser on the same computer).
After completion
You can download a copy of your responses immediately upon completing the survey.
After the global survey closes, you will receive your bespoke Organization Report. This includes your company score and detailed results, compared against the average scores of your peers.
We invite companies of all sizes, in all geographies, to join us in taking meaningful steps toward improving the sustainability of your business travel program. Companies with high scores or who improve their scores year-on-year may be eligible to receive an award.

Is the Acceleration Challenge open access? Can non-GBTA members participate?
When is the Maturity Assessment open, and how long will it take to complete? Can I save and return to my responses?
Will my information and responses be kept confidential?
The GBTA Sustainability Acceleration Challenge is a collaborative, non-competitive initiative designed to benefit the entire business travel industry. As part of this effort, participating companies are asked to share information via a structured assessment.
All data submitted through the assessment is stored securely in a GBTA-managed database. Access to this data is strictly limited to GBTA and Accenture. Accenture is granted a limited, purpose-specific license to use the information solely in support of the Acceleration Challenge. This means:
No commercial or competitive use: The data will not be used for marketing, sales, or any commercial or competitive use cases.
Confidentiality and integrity: Company-specific responses and scores will not be disclosed publicly or shared with third parties.
By participating, companies contribute to a collective understanding of sustainability maturity in business travel, while retaining full control over their proprietary information.
The Acceleration Challenge’s public dashboard only reports aggregated information about the state of climate action in business travel. If you choose to make your participation in the Acceleration Challenge public (via this separate form), your logo will be shared on our website, but your results and individual data will still be kept confidential.
How are the Maturity Assessments scored?
Scores are calculated based on a company’s maturity level for each tactic and the decarbonization impact of that tactic. The overall maturity score for each category is calculated as the product of these dimensions, reflecting both its potential to reduce emissions and its implementation progress. The maturity score is thus a transparent and comparable metric that allows companies to see where they stand against their peers. Companies who participate in the Acceleration Challenge receive not only their overall score, but scores for each category from a 1 (no activity) to a 5 (leading practice). How and when will I receive my results? How should I interpret my results?
When the global assessment closes, each respondent will receive their Organization Report via email from [email protected]. The report provides you with a score and compares your progress against aggregated industry results. Your information, assessment responses, and Organization Report will be kept confidential. The report can be used internally to track progress against sustainability goals, to aid in strategic planning, and to help make the business case for more sustainable travel practices. The Organization Report will give you tangible insights and metrics to benchmark your travel program against your peer group, providing clear data to create buy-in to accelerate your sustainability program. The information from all respondents will also be aggregated into an Industry Dashboard available on our website.

- NORAM Sustainability Leaders: This category recognizes high scoring North American regional or country-specific travel programs.

What’s the difference between the leaderboard and the overall award winners?
The leaderboard recognizes top and most improved travel programs based on their scores in the Acceleration Challenge.
The overall award winners are chosen from the leaderboard by a panel of judges. Other than the overall award winner, leaderboard participants are not listed in order of rank.
How are the overall award winners chosen, and what is the role of the judging panel?
When the Acceleration Challenge closes, the highest scoring and most improved travel programs are notified. These participants are then judged on a series of differentiators, including:
- APPROACH TO CHALLENGES: How the program overcomes barriers
- IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY: How the program plans to improve their score
- INDUSTRY ADVOCACY: How the program advocates for and collaborates on business travel’s sustainable transition
- THOUGHT LEADERSHIP: How the program inspires others to act
- INNOVATION: How the program supports innovation and pilot projects
The judging panel does not see the program’s score or any data shared via the Acceleration Challenge. This information remains CONFIDENTIAL.
How can I participate in the Acceleration Challenge awards program?
To be recognized in the Acceleration Challenge awards program, companies must participate annually in the Acceleration Challenge confidential assessment. This assessment is open once a year during the summer. Stay in the know by following GBTA Foundation on LinkedIn.
